Gameplay: overview (3/5★)
Build a deck and smite six foes to beat the game! There’s no limit to the number of cards in your deck, but you’ll want to form a basic strategy. Each enemy has one or more “gimmicks” you’ll need to counter (and the last boss is every enemy rolled into one — on steroids). Cards can’t be played without “SP”, which regenerates every turn; while some cards can generate SP, they typically require a hefty SP investment. As enemies become increasingly difficult, you’ll need to manage your SP carefully. It’s not always a good idea to play your whole hand every turn. Something I learned from years of Magic the Gathering is that life is a resource — the game’s not over until you run out! Each enemy will broadcast their next “actions”, which consists of a hand not unlike your own. The idea is to play your hand based on theirs; for example, if you see back-to-back attacks, it might be a good idea to bolster your “defense” or attempt to cancel them! Each enemy offers new cards when they are defeated, or whenever you’re defeated. It’s like you can’t lose!
Sexual Content: overview (4/5★)
There are six sex-scenes, which are played whenever you’re defeated or your “arousal gauge” is capped. Each sex-scene utilizes a single, static, base CG with variations for undress, progression and climax. Enemies have an “action” called “Bad Touch”, which will increase your arousal (and potentially damage your clothes). The artwork is great, and the dialogue is kind of hot. Most scenes have the protagonist, Saki undergo forced insemination and/or gangrape. She doesn’t mind the rough treatment — it comes with the job!
Story: overview (3/5★)
The story is clearly outlined beside the main-menu. It reads,
“Undercover agent Saki has been given a new mission. She has to locate the headquarters of a criminal organization, steal their secret data, and destroy their facilities.
This organization performs human trafficking,
and Saki lets herself be kidnapped to infiltrate it. This works, but now she has no weapon nor communication device. She is on her own, and she has a mission to complete.”
Sound: overview (4/5★)
The music is rockin’! It’s some sort of orchestic, electronic beat. I felt no need to mute the sound track. The main protagonist is fully voiced, and she makes a lot of comments mid-battle. Some people may find her commentary annoying, but I enjoyed her input (though I had no idea what she was saying). I wish the antagonists had voicing too. The user-interface doesn’t make any sounds either, which I thought was unusual — it made the game sound incomplete. Every game should have toggleable “button sounds”!
Visuals: overview (4/5★)
The titlescreen looks alright. It’s made of reused content, and the formatting is a little messy. From the “Config” menu, you may adjust audio and display preferences at any time. Individual CGs can be reviewed from the “Gallery”, but the user-interface can’t be hidden while viewing them. Full sex-scenes can be reviewed from “Memories”. The user-interface can be temporarily hidden during scenes. The user-interface is a pleasure to navigate, but I thought the backgrounds and enemies looked generic. I felt as though I was playing a fancy RPGMaker game. The English isn’t the best, but it’s serviceable. I think this game would benefit from some sort of tutorial.
Verdict: needs more content (3.5/5★)
I had my reservations, but I don’t regret buying this game. UndercoverAgent was a pleasant surprise! The gameplay is a little shallow, but there’s enough strategy and randomization keep battles interesting. By the end of the game, I was rocking a deck that could draw a hand-after-hand of cards paralyze my enemies. The artwork and sex-scenes are pretty hot, but there’s only six — combined with the miniscule playtime (maybe one hour), I think this game is overpriced. UndercoverAgent would be a wonderful three-dollar buy, but for eight-dollars I think I’d rather buy a full-fledged RPG or VN. After I beat this game, I wished there were more levels, more deck-building and more kinky insemination — but alas, it was over as soon as it started. I recommend “wishlisting” this game until a sale.
