Introduction
This software was purchased by HentaiKeep on itch.io
Published by Vulgar Fairy on Itch.io only ten days ago, Flying monster girls is a new game on the block. Enticed by a big booty bee girl and “not Tinkerbell”, how could I say “no” to watching them fuck cat-faced shrooms with long licky tongues?
Shown below is the opening titlescreen.
To note, the game defaults to “6+” mode, a toggleable “game mode” if “you don’t want to someone saw what you’re playing [sic]” (1). ’18+” mode can be activated by clicking the numbered octagon in the top right corner of the title screen.
Gameplay (2/5)
Overview
After selecting a flying monster girl, players are spawned into a scrolling stage of familiar green pipes and tentacle’d denizens. The goal of the game is to avoid obstacles and collect Gold to unlock all flying monster girls. Flight is maintained by manually flapping your character’s wings with careful deliberation or button mashing panic — depends on how the random number gods lay down their pipes.
Controlling my flying monster girl kind of felt familiar, like operating a uh, flappy bird.
Progression
Between the derivative green pipes are collectable items. If not Gold (but hopefully Gold), they adjust the size or speed of your character. These modifiers cause gameplay to fluctuate in difficulty, to a detriment. Since there isn’t a time limit or incremental difficulty in the game, they’re more frustrating than fun.
Every fucking slow down felt like getting slapped in the dick.
Balance
It costs too much Gold to unlock new characters. I understand why Vulgar Fairy doubled the price of each unlockable — it’s an easy way to inflate playtime, but the gameplay isn’t entertaining enough to justify extended playtime.
I was bored in five minutes. If no new features are added to provide enrichment while collecting Gold, the price of unlocks should be dramatically reduced.
Controls
The game is operated using the mouse button and cursor alone. I would like to see support for keyboard controls. As a right-handed girly, I prefer using my off-hand to control lewd games (whenever possible) to uh, control my cock.
Chapter Three: Sexual Content (2/5)
Section One: Content
There are twelve unlockable animations, three for each unlockable monster girl.
Section Two: Implementation
The first three animations are unlocked incrementally by collecting “Score”, calculated by the highest Gold collected during a playthrough. Each animation after that is automatically unlocked by purchasing monster girls.
Section Three: Interactivity
Each animation may be progressed by mashing the mouse button while the cursor is on top. Unfortunately, after climaxing the animations quickly close. At first, I thought I was somehow skipping the animations I worked so hard to earn!
Imagine if the moment you nutted your girl just up’d and left.
What’s aftercare?
Section Four: Quality
The unlockable sex scenes are brief loops with rudimentary animation.
The actual point in which each animation loops is a bit jarring, almost robotic — but as the animations are sped up, it’s less noticeable. The best part of the animations is the usage of unconventional partners, showcasing an assortment of monster girls fucking mushrooms and tentacles.
Chapter Four: Story (NA/5)
Overview
To my surprise, there doesn’t appear to be any story whatsoever — not even so much a name for any unlockable character.
Plot
There is no plot.
Characters
There are no characters.
Writing
There is no writing to. . . uh, write about.
Chapter Five: Sound (1/5)
Soundtrack
I think the soundtrack is literally two seconds long. It sounds like it’s going to lead somewhere but all that happens is that it loops into a different octave.
Did Vulgar Fairy produce their own music?
If they wanted a sort of “EDM” flavored soundtrack, I don’t imagine it’d be that hard to source some inexpensive stock music.
Sound Effects
This game feels so. . . empty.
I can count the number of sound effects on one hand; there’s two for collecting items, one for starting a new game, one for ending games, and one for sexual animations.
Voice Acting
There is no voice acting in this game; no panting, moaning or anything like that.
Chapter Six: Visuals (2/5)
Title Screen
There is no title screen. Functionally, the main menu doubles as the title screen.
User Configuration
Players may toggle music and NSFW graphics via the main menu.
Navigation
There is little user-interface to navigate
Graphics
Flying monster girls appears to be a mix of custom sprites with stock backgrounds; I’m skeptical they were drawn by the same artist(s) behind everything else in the game.
The sprite work is far from professional. . . but it has charm. A sort of early 2000’s Flash game charm, with thick black outlines, tweened animation, minimal color palates and generous usage of gradients.
But I can’t help but scratch my head over the art direction.
If the fairies are flying in the clouds, where do the pipes and tentacles start and end? Are they floating in the sky, or are they somehow planted onto the ground?
Without context (and good luck with that), it’s clear this game is a knock off Flappy Birds with no meaningful effort to artistically distance itself.
Chapter Seven: Verdict (2/5)
Wait for updates. Flying monster girls is so close to being an “okay” game, all it needs is some quality of life and meaningful gameplay variety. There’s only so much you can do with a Flappy Birds clone but Vulgar Fairy has the right idea adding “power ups” and monster girls to the formula.
Chapter Eight: Recommendations
Gameplay Recommendations
Progression
Power ups should be temporary, specifically ones that slow down the player. The game should progressively get faster, transforming “slow downs” into a saving grace as the difficulty of the game is increased.
Power ups should also be more varied in placement to encourage decisions based on “risk versus reward”.
The last sex scenes should be unlocked by collecting score to encourage players to play the final playable monster girl.
Balance
Reduce the amount of gold it takes to unlock characters or increase the amount of gold that spawns.
Controls
Add remappable control schemes.
Sound
Soundtrack
For the love of the Divines, please add a complete soundtrack — you cannot expect players to bop to a three second loop for thirty minutes straight.
Sound Effects
The game would benefit from more sound effects overall. This might be a hot take, but the playable girls could have a sound effect that is played whenever they flapped their wings.
Kinda like how in games with walking characters they make sounds with their feet?
It’d be funny if the monster girls made a sound when they bop their heads on obstacles, whether it be a “bonk” or a voiced yelp.
Visuals
User Configuration
When toggling between game modes, the icons for playable characters should have “18+” versions.
Music should be adjustable by volume, not just “off” and “on”.
Sound effects should be adjustable.
Performance
I experienced no performance issues whatsoever.
System Specifications
I installed this software on a Windows 10 Pro machine with an Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10900KF CPU, an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3090 and thirty-two gigabytes of RAM on a Samsung SSD 870 QVO 8 TB drive.
