Chapter One: Introduction
Dress-up Traveller is a lewd side-scroller available on Steam. It took me about an hour and a half to complete this game.
To experience the full game with adult content, Dress-up Traveller – Uncensored Patch must be installed. I will only be discussing the patched version of the game.
Chapter Two: Gameplay (4/5★)
Section One: Overview
In exchange for “some basic equipment” and a place to live until she becomes “a real adventurer”, our heroine must slay monsters for ingredients for Manager’s “item shop”.
Yes, her manager’s name is Manager.
Section One: Combat
Combat is slow-paced hack-and-slash. Typically, only a few enemies are on screen at a time with methodical, highly predictable attacks. Battles can get hectic when there are overlapping enemies and projectiles, but it’s easy to get out of sticky situations by simply running away. With the exception of boss fights, passing “quests” is simple as walking right.
Most enemies drop “ingredients” on death. Ingredients are used in “Synthesis” to craft improved gear. New weapons, armor and accessories are a boon for damage and survivability.
Section Two: Balance
To synthesize gear and unlock content from the “Reminisce” menu, it’s necessary to replay stages. The grind isn’t unreasonable, but I found myself running through enemies by the end of the game.
I wish the stages offered more variety — perhaps, in the form of varied terrain or new monsters.
Section Two: Character Customization
The player character may be lightly customized; her hair and facial features are fair game. Unlockable clothes also offer an avenue of customization, but since clothes are considered a form of character progression choosing one piece over another may reduce combat effectiveness.
Character customization shines in the gallery, where combat effectiveness doesn’t matter.
Chapter Three: Sexual Content (5/5★)
Section One: Content
Barring one animation, Dress-up Traveller offers strictly non-consenting content featuring assorted animals and monsters, such as spiders, slimes, wasps and werewolves.
There are nine rape animations played when the player character is raped, one for each enemy. These animations have at least five stages of progression, culminating to a climax. There are four full-art animations which are unlocked as Manager’s quests are completed — they offer up to nine stages of progression or undress, culminating to climax.
Section Two: Implementation
When the player character is hit by an enemy, her equipped clothes are damaged. When they are destroyed, enemies will grapple and rape her. Rape drains her stamina, reducing the number of attacks and blocks she can make when she breaks free.
However, if she doesn’t break free and climaxes she takes damage!
Fortunately, the penalty for rape is minor enough players can enjoy sexual content without grinding for “crystals”. Sexual content may be freely reviewed without penalty by collecting reminiscence crystals from fallen enemies. Each monster has their own reminiscence crystal, encouraging players to replay “quests” for sexual content.
Section Three: Interactivity
Sex-scenes aren’t really interactive; unless they are viewed in the gallery, they progress automatically without any input from the player. During quests, players can only attempt to break free or watch.
Section Four: Quality
I’ll admit, I might of “accidently” lost my clothes a few times.
The animations are pretty awesome, especially the full-art scenes. The voice acting could be less repetitive but Dress-up Traveller won’t let your flag pole down!
Chapter Four: Story (2/5★)
Section One: Plot
Disinterested in “A very normal lifestyle”, “With high hopes” our heroine follows in the footsteps of a nameless “adventurer who came to [her] village.” But “With no prior training or equipment, [she] couldn’t even defeat a lowly Blossomonster.”
In “such a pitiful state” she lies a meadow — naked, “covered in scars and a smelly liquid”.
Fortunately, she is rescued by Manager, a young potion craftswoman. She agrees to house our hapless heroine “On one condition” — she must “collect materials for the store.”
Section One: Characters
The only interactions between the player character and “Manager” are quest related. That’s fine, but it kills whatever impact the ending was supposed to have. I won’t spoil the ending, but without any character development to build up it falls flat.
Chapter Five: Sound (4/5★)
Section One: Soundtrack
The fantasy selection of music is pleasant.
I enjoyed the bag-pipe solo from the main-menu.
Section Two: Sound Effects
Combat is full of satisfying, sort of “retro” sounds which remind me of old Nintendo games. I feel as though swords should go “woosh!“, but other than that the audio is a lot of fun.
Section Three: Voice Acting
There aren’t any spoken words, but the player character has three preset voices to liven battle. Sexual animations are full of cute moaning, but it’s annoying when they occasionally repeat.
Chapter Six: Visuals (4/5★)
Section One: User-interface
The user-interface is a delight! It’s nicely laid out with bright colors and icons with clear meanings.
Some players may be put off by the text which eats up a quarter of the screen, but I didn’t mind. There is no platforming in the game, so there’s little need for vertical screen space.
My only complaint is the combined usage of keyboard and mouse controls. Although the game can be played with a keyboard, navigation periodically switches to mandatory mouse control. I like having the option for mouse control, but I prefer to stay on my keyboard when the core gameplay doesn’t support the mouse.
Section Two: Graphics
I loved the visual style of Dress-up Traveller. The explorable worlds are really pretty, and monsters are cute and comical.
Chapter Seven: Verdict (4/5★)
I was so sad when I completed this game. . .
Dress-up Traveller is a blast with wonderful graphics and sexual content — I wanted more! The game would benefit from a little polish, but overall Dress-up Traveller is a succinct hack-and-slash that’s worth a playthrough (and a fap too!)
Chapter Eight: Recommendations
Gameplay
Remove the collision from the heart thingie in Manager’s item shop.
Story
Add more “friendly dialogue” between quests to set up the ending.
Visuals
Allow all menus to be keyboard controlled.
