Foreword: published December 6th, 2021

I received a free, prerelease copy of this game for review purposes — thanks Honey Pie! For the purposes of this article, I will only be discussing the patched game.

Gameplay: published December 6th, 2021 (2/5★)

I’m not sure how to categorize Devil’s Dungeon. On paper, it’s sort of a real-time strategy with RPG elements. In practice, it’s more like a clicker game — I’ll explain “why” later. The goal of the game is protect the Devil Lord from waves of “heroes”. You’re given some time before each wave to click-away blocks to uncover money, monsters, and experience points. Complicated tunnels are an effective means to bottleneck intruders and remove the Devil Lord from far-reaching magic attacks. Monsters are the Devil Lord’s first line of defense — captured enemies are second, providing powerful support wherever they are needed. Monsters may be permanently upgraded between levels by spending money, but experience grants immediate upgrades which last until the end of a level.

Like I said, Devil’s Dungeon is mechanically a real-time strategy game, but it feels more like a clicker game when you actually play it. You have no control of monsters, and combat is offers no challenges that ask for you attention. As long as you’re breaking blocks, you’re winning. I never had the chance see what was going on — either the battle was over before I realized it, or I was too busy grinding for money. I think the ability to break blocks needs to be surrendered during combat, bringing the focus to battle and discouraging reckless digging. Coupled with commands (for your monsters) and placeable traps, all stages of the game would remain engaging and fast-paced.

Sexual Content: published December 6th, 2021 (2/5★)

There are ten unlockable sex-scenes. Before gaining viewing their respective sexual animation, you must play through a simple clicker-style minigame; by mashing on erogenous zones, the subject’s clothes will be removed. When she’s completely nude, you may play a looping sexual animation until reaching climax. The animation and interactivity leave a lot to be desired, but I enjoyed the exaggerated pussies. They look like pillows!

The CGs are fuzzy. It’s as if they were intended for a smaller screen (such as a phone or tablet). The artwork has nothing to do with the game — it’s as if the animations were ripped from another game, or maybe from some poor sod’s gallery. Devil’s Dungeon is about a “Devil Lord” that battles female warriors underground. Despite the obvious fantasy theme, the gallery is full of modern props and backdrops. Each animation features a lean, tan man that looks nothing like the Devil Lord! Either the gallery was slapped on premade gameplay, or the gameplay (and by extension, the “story”) were slapped on premade gallery. Either way, Honey Pie isn’t fooling anyone.

Story: published December 6th, 2021 (2/5★)

On a mission to conquer the world, the Devil Lord digs dungeons to spawn an army of monsters. Unfortunately, his plan is seemingly known throughout the land — there’s no shortage of “heroes” to invade his dungeons and sabotage his world domination!

Sound: published December 6th, 2021 (3/5★)

The music is okay. The tone and instruments vary wildly, suggesting Honey Pie raided stock tunes. None of the music compelled me to mute the application, but I wasn’t impressed. The sound effects are a little distracting, but the volume is adjustable. The sounds of sex are what I’d expect — like hentai.

Visuals: published December 6th, 2021 (3/5★)

I enjoyed the pixel-art aesthetic of the game, but looking back at the gallery it feels out-of-place. The sprites suggest a fantasy setting, but the sexual animations use modern props and characters. Clearly, parts of the game were premade or pre-commissioned. Beyond the stock main-menu and gallery, the user-interface looks great! It’s stylistically retro, and the lay-out doesn’t detract from gameplay. However, I would have liked a more dynamic textbox. I didn’t enjoy the way the Devil Lord’s dialogue would persist until the next wave.

Verdict: published December 6th, 2021 (2.5/5★)

I’m disappointed by this game. When I saw the screenshots, I was super excited — but I was letdown by unbalanced gameplay and run-of-the-mill hentai. I’ve played worst games, but Devil’s Dungeon has no redeeming qualities. Devil’s Dungeon isn’t mechanically interesting, and generic, fuzzy hentai isn’t worth anyone’s time. If this game were overhauled with new mechanics, I reckon it could be transformed into a short and sweet strategy game. Unless the hentai is also overhauled, it’ll remain a short and sucky (heh) porn game. If you’re here for the porn, you’ll probably be disappointed.
