Foreword
I originally published a review for Paizuri Fantasies Kinetic Novel on February 17th, 2020. I have updated that review, to reflect my thoughts on this game as of September, 2020.
Gameplay
This “game is essentially a set of digitized comics. As such, there are no player-decisions to make. You simply flip through the pages as you finish reading them. The comics must be unlocked in chronological order, but once read can be opened at any time (and in any order).
Story
There are three story arcs to read, spread across a varying number of comic issues; Paizuri Fantasies is a paltry single issue; Paizuri Hotel is a twelve issue spread; and Yuuki’s Fantasies is comprised of six issues. Overall, the comics are brief, and straight to the point; there is little to no character development, and they serve only to deliver one or two sex scenes. The comics will be over before you know it.
Paizuri Fantasies
Yuuki is on the prowl for her purse. She collides with Chi Chi, who isn’t paying attention and knocks her to the floor. Chi Chi “accidently” sneaks her fingers up Yuuki’s thighs — accident my ass, Chi Chi knew what she was doin’. Yuuki offers to take Chi Chi to a nearby coffee shop (Hot Coffee), to make it up to her.
Wait a second, shouldn’t it be the other way around?
After coffee, they head on over to a nearby lingerie shop. The owner swings by with some drinks, and they try on more revealing lingerie. Out of nowhere, they drop to the floor, and bang. The store owner is not a happy camper, and she evicts them from the premises.
And just like that, the newfound lovers leave and the story ends.
Paizuri Hotel
Nephew (or unnamed protagonist) just inherited a new hotel. His job is to keep his tenants happy, and the moment the hotel is signed over he receives a call. One of his tenants is eager to break him in, and by that she means sex him up. And just like that, the first book ends. The remainder of the issues describe the protagonist’s sexual relations with his many female tenants.
Gee, if I could pay my rent sucking off an attractive male, you can count me in!
Yuuki’s Fantasies
Yuuki’s on her first date date with her boyfriend. They attend the Halloween Festival, and watch the fireworks. Yuuki is thoroughly impressed, and following a moist kiss she gets on her knees to show her appreciation for a great night. By appreciation, she means suck off her boyfriend a couple of times.
Wait, wasn’t this Yuuki’s first date?
Well, then again, you don’t usually see ladies that casually dress in erotic (Playboy-eske) bunny costumes. Anyways, her boyfriend bends her over and pumps her up with the good stuff. Issue One ends with her leaking on the grassy floor, beneath the glow of distant fireworks. The next five issues showcase the many lewd situations she finds herself in, between her boyfriend, his friend, and rapey strangers.
Visuals
The titlescreen is layed out like a library, where you may pick and choose any volume of Paizuri Fantasies (that you have previously read). You can adjust audio and text preferences. I recognize the “Settings” screen from a series of shovelware (which I call the “Harem” series). Unlike the aforementioned series, the dialogue or text preferences make sense (but sadly, still play no part in the game). The dialogue is written in dialogue boxes, as opposed to a traditional visual novel, and they cannot be adjusted. There is no “zoom” function, and the comic book pages are surrounded by an ugly grey border.
The Goods
Paizuri Fantasies Kinetic Novel is a fantasy first, and a novel second. The whole library (of sixteen comics) is front to deliver sex-scenes. The artwork is really high-quality, though personally I’m not a fan of comic-book style formatting. In my opinion, it doesn’t translate well to a computer screen (which are traditionally wide screens). Most of the sex-scenes depict consensual, heterosexual sex. There are a few rapey heterosexual scenes, and a few lesbian scenes too.
Verdict
While I do recommend this game, I’m not sure who it’ll appeal to. The comic book-style storytelling doesn’t translate well to the PC experience. I don’t find panning/zooming about a comic book to be very engaging. I much prefer a more traditional, visual-novel style of story telling (which is better suited for today’s 16:9 wide screens). The comics themselves are high-quality, but each issue is very short. I think Paizuri Fantasies Kinetic Novel will mostly appeal to preexisting fans of the artist or series.
