Chapter One: Introduction
Naked Story is a lewd card-game inspired by “Japanese Sugoroku” available on Steam.
To experience the complete game with adult content, the “Auxiliary Patch” must be installed from WhiteCute’s website. This article will strictly discuss the patched game.
Chapter Two: Gameplay (3/5★)
Section One: Overview
Ruri must reach her classmate’s house — possibly naked — without getting raped or arrested.
To move, she must play card-based “Battles” with Masato. Each of his cards are assigned a value between one and six; win or lose, the cards he plays represent how many “tiles” she will move.
Winning is more or less a game of “rock-paper-scissors”. The idea is play cards from Masato’s hand with the highest probability of winning — or tying — to force Ruri to strip.
Masato’s house is “at the end of the 8th District”, or “400 tiles total”. Scattered amongst each District are shops and sexual “events”. In addition to making Ruri strip, a big part of gameplay is choosing a winning card that also forces Ruri to land on desired tiles.
Sometimes, it’s worth losing a few battles to set up your next playthrough for success.
Section Two: Exploration
There are a few branching paths to consider, dramatically alternating the events are available during a given playthrough. The first two or three playthroughs are the most engaging. They offer the greatest variety of sexual content and fresh visual content.
The “fun factor” really falls off after the fourth, fifth and up playthrough when unlocking additional content means slogging through several already-completed Districts.
Chapter Three: Sexual Content (4/5★)
Section One: Content
Ruri is humiliated as Masato forces her to walk familiar streets tits out. She blackmailed, degraded and in a worse case scenario, raped by her peers and supervisors.
I counted seventy entries in the “ALBUM” for sexual content (although many of those scenes share artwork). Additionally, there are four “SP” scenes that aren’t seen in-game.
Section Two: Implementation
When Ruri loses a Battle, she loses “HP”. At marked intervals, she will undress. When Ruri is naked, she may trigger “events” upon reaching the end of “districts” or landing on designated tiles. Some of these events may lead to a “bad ending”, which is equivalent to a sex-changed “game over”.
In addition to full nudity, some paths and events require ownership of select “items”. For example, if Masato owns a “Collar”, it’s possible to view a scene in which Ruri is “walked” around town by a group of delinquents. Items may be purchased from designated “Shop” tiles at exorbitant prices; it’s necessary to stockpile money from multiple playthroughs to purchase them.
Section Three: Interactivity
Sex-scenes are linear sequences of dialogue and images.
Section Four: Quality
Ruri’s dialogue and expressions are spot-on — you can see and feel overwhelming shame and humiliation as she is seen and abused by the people she knows. I could tell the backgrounds weren’t hand-drawn, but they aren’t too aesthetically detracting.
Chapter Four: Story (2/5★)
Section One: Plot
After losing a bet with her classmate, Ruri is forced to play a “strip cards” — in public. Otherwise known as “that annoying bitch”, it’s payback time for everyone she ever wronged.
Section One: Characters
There little story to talk about; following the optional prologue, it’s straight into the game. The prologue offers a quick and dirty background for the protagonists and supporting cast to add some extra oomph to the sexual content. Additional character development can be found amongst the sex-scenes, but I wouldn’t count on any meaningful interaction.
Chapter Five: Sound (2/5★)
Section One: Soundtrack
There’s only a few brief, looping riffs in the game. Only one of them played outside of sexual content. I was tempted to mute the application — but I soldiered through for this article.
Section Two: Sound Effects
The sound effects are alright. They didn’t always feel setting appropriate, but the sounds that are played while comparing cards makes a big impact on reducing auditory monotony.
Section Three: Voice Acting
The Ruri fully voiced! I don’t understand any Japanese though, so I can’t vouch for the quality of her acting. I wish the other characters in the game had voice acting too. I would have liked to hear the shock, lust and derision Ruri receives throughout the game.
Chapter Six: Visuals (3/5★)
Section One: User-interface
The user-interface is a little rough, but the in-built “manual” helped me understand what did what. It shouldn’t take a manual to teach players how to navigate the basic game, but I’m glad it’s available. I like how the interface shows what cards do what. There’s no need to actually learn the effectiveness of each card (which would have put a big damper on gameplay).
Section Two: Graphics
The sprites are generally coherent, but every so often I could spot something that didn’t belong. For example, the icons for money on the bottom right screen are uncharacteristically realistic compared to the anime characters and pixelated playing board.
Chapter Seven: Verdict (3/5★)
If you’re a fan of exhibitionism and humiliation, you’ll get a kick out of Naked Story. The gameplay loses its novelty after a few hours, but there’s enough sexual content to string you along for two, three, maybe even four playthroughs.
Completionists may enjoy working towards 100% “PROGRESS”. Unlocking new entries for the “ALBUM” can be a slog — but Ruri’s futile efforts to preserve her dignity are worth the effort.
In Masato’s words, “This is pretty fun”.
Chapter Eight: Recommendations
Gameplay
There needs to be more interesting tiles — such as additional cards or minor branching patches.
Sexual Content
Sex-scenes could do with less fade to black transitions — that’s the sort of thing you do as a writer to (A) cut corners or (B) censor a scene. Neither excuse is acceptable in the context of this game. Anyone buying Naked Girl isn’t going to mind extended sexual content (even if it uses the same base images). It’s not like words are expensive to write.
I found it annoying how often characters remarked Ruri is “wet” without the art showing wet. Oozing, sticky vaginas aren’t always realistic, sure — but who plays “strip cards” in public anyways?
Sound
There isn’t enough musical variety. Add at least one track per district.
